I’ve Run the Race (2 Timothy 4:6-8)

The Apostle Paul is writing to assure his friend that ministry includes suffering, but also glory. This is very much an extension of Christ's life, death, resurrection, and ascension. Does this mean that we complete the work of Christ as we live out of gratitude? How should we understand the power in which we run the Christian race? Is that power our will or the Lord's power?

A Stern Master's Kingdom (Luke 17:10)

Scripture speaks of us receiving crowns and rewards when we get to glory. One of think that our sole motivation is to have a bigger crown, a bigger mansion, or more rewards than another christian. What is wrong with this sort of motivation to obey to receive more from our Lord at the final judgment? Why should we want to conform to the Lord as we journey through this age?

Striving for Our Rest (Hebrews 3:7-4:13 (LD 22; BC 37)

We are exhorted to strive to enter the Sabbath rest of the Lord.  Does this mean that we have to work really hard to please God?  Was the problem with Israel that they just did not understand the gospel?  Was it that they did not have Christ?  Why would the letter to the Hebrews appeal to Israel when we are being exhorted through the words of this letter?  What can we possibly learn from the Israelites that is relevant today?

Living in the Last Days (3) (Mark 13:32-37)

Christ continues to talk about suffering and struggle in these last days.  We can be assured that as the temple was destroyed with Jerusalem that the end of the world is guaranteed.  So, if we know that the end of the world is coming then how shall we live?  Really?  Do we need to get very busy to make sure that this world is prepared for the Lord?  Do we just be fatalistic and say it is coming what can we do anyway?  Or is there something to Christ exhorting us to watch out and be on our guard that puts the coming end in a positive light?
