Edifying Christian Resources

The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification by Walter Marshall. This is a very helpful book regarding Christian piety. This book does a wonderful job of reminding us that we grow as we are united to Christ and we can actually do introspection when we know we are in Christ. The book was published in the 17th century.

Here is a link to the PDF version on Monergism.

S. M. Baugh’s outline on the kingdom. This is a helpful resource to see what Christ means when he teaches us about the Kingdom of God and that we desire this kingdom come.

Here is a link to Baugh’s outline.

Classis Southwest US did a very nice study on Eastern Orthodoxy. I want to make sure that this report is available and remains available as people continue to flirt with the Eastern Orthodox tradition. You can download the PDF version here.

Resources for Training Kids

Children’s Catechism based off the Westminster Shorter Catechism is a very good starting point pior to teaching them the Heidelberg Catechism. (I downloaded this copy from Sovereign Grace Church in Toronto, CA. I downloaded and uploaded it to our site to make sure it is available. I like how compact they made it.)

Ecumenical Creeds and Confessions” is also a very helpful resource to have handy.

Hylkema and Tuuk “A First Book on Christian Doctrine” This is a pretty good book to simply teach your family or even for adults to know our Christian doctrine. The discussion questions at the end of each chapter are not always helpful. Check back as I am researching to confirm that this book is in the public domain. If it is then I want to revise some of the discussion questions and repost it to the web.

My 7 Part Introduction to Baptism

This is the first session that examines the sign and seal of infant baptism

This is the second video that examines the implications for Christian households.

This is the third video in the series. We consider whether infant dedication is more biblical than infant baptism.

This is the fourth video. We consider the question about whether or not there is a correlation between circumcision and baptism.

This is the fifth video in the series. This is where we show that circumcision is not just a physical sign for a physical covenant, but it is spiritual in nature.

This is the sixth video in our series. In this video we show that there is an intended correlation between the sign of baptism and the sign of circumcision.

This is the seventh video in our series. This is the final video where we simply conclude the series and consider the implications of baptism and its application to infants.

Resources on Sacraments (Lord’s Supper and Baptism)

Chaney’s “William the Baptist (I downloaded this from Monergism and uploaded it here in case it ever gets taken down).

Cullman’s “Baptism in the New Testament.”

Dennis Johnson’s letter to his daughter regarding infant baptism. Here is the original link. I made a PDF version of the article which you can download here.

Dr. W. Robert Godfrey, “Why Baptize Infants?”

Kline, M.G. “By Oath Consigned.” This is an incredibly insightful work on how baptism and circumcision fit together as signs that consecrated a vindicated community. Link to Text.

John Murray excerpt “Basis for Infant Baptism.” This is a chapter from John Murray’s book “Christian Baptism.

"A Brief Defense of Infant Baptism" published on the Gospel Coalition blog is a helpful summary of infant baptism. There are also additional recommended resources on the bottom of their page.

Dr. Cornelius Venema summarizes the significance of the sacraments.

Here are links to his two summaries of baptism: What is Baptism? and Should Infants be Baptized?

Here are links to his two summaries regarding the Lord’s Supper: The Sacrament of Communion and Assessing Paedocommunion (Children at the Lord’s Supper/Communion)
