God’s Unnoticed Signature (LD 50; Acts 14:16, 17)

We can loose sight that God provides for this while creation. The Apostle Paul reminds the mission field that God's continual care demonstrates his commitment to this creation. We think of the Lord reminding Job in Job 38:13-18 about the Lord's care for the careless ostrich. This is not an invitation for us to take God's faithfulness for granted, but to be even more confident to place all our requests before his throne of grace trusting in his provision.

Our Daily Bread (Deuteronomy 8:3)

It is easy to think that the Lord may in the best case scenario provide our food, but we need to be assertive to secure additional physical blessings.  It is tempting to think that the Lord takes care of the spiritual blessings, but we better get busy to secure the physical blessings.  However, our Lord commands us to pray that our Lord would provide our daily bread.  Why our daily bread?  What does daily bread have to do with physical blessings?  How does our request for our daily bread challenge us to see the bigger picture of God's provision?

Reprioritizing Our Position (LD 50; Matthew 6:25-34)

Asking the Lord to give us our daily bread could be another way of asking the Lord to make me more successful.  In other words it is the desire that we want to be successful.  The problem that we have as humans is looking beyond this world and believing that our Heavenly Father is more than looking down upon us, but is actually caring for us.  So, when we ask the Lord for our daily bread what are we exactly asking the Lord to provide?

This Day Our Daily Bread” (Psalm 145 (LD 50)

Our temptation is to trust in ourselves for our daily physical needs.  We can look to money we have set aside for a rainy day, our investments, our business opportunities, or maybe just our shrewd handling of money.  The temptation we have as creatures is that we can trust in our abilities for our daily provisions rather than the Lord.  So, why is this wrong and what does the prayer request regarding the Lord providing our daily bread put our financial priorities in perspective?
