The Humble and Majestic King (Matthew 21:1-11)

So often we view the cross of Christ in a sentimental way.  We do not see the radical absurdity of Christ’s mission in the way that he establishes the kingdom.  We see Christ humbling himself while seated on a donkey, but have we taken the time to think about the backdrop of Christ entering into Jerusalem on a donkey? How does Christ riding on a donkey demonstrate his humility and exaltation?

God’s Goodness (Job 42:10-17)

This is the conclusion to the story of Job.  This is a book that has a lot of twists and turns, and we are left in the story a bit curious about the Lord’s plan for this man.  Is this man just going to suffer?  Is this man going to be made whole?  What can such suffering teach us about the Gospel?

My Indictments (Job 30:1-31)

Job is not happy with how the Lord has treated him.  You would think that Job would be rather content considering that the Lord has blessed him, and allowed him to enjoy a great life.  However, now we hear why Job is so upset as he even uses the counselors own words to describe his suffering.  Why would Job be so upset if he is merely using the counselors own words to describe his suffering?

Let My Case Begin (Job 29:1-25)

The book of Job is moving to a conclusion.  Job has silences the counselors to the point where they will no longer argue or speak against him.  Job is now entering into his legal proceedings with the Lord.  Job wants all the understand why Job is shocked and appalled that such a thing has happened to him.  Why is Job so shocked?  What right does Job have to claim that the Lord should not bring such suffering and hardship against this man?

An Unarmed Warrior (Isaiah 49:1-13)

The promised warrior is supposed to secure a life that never ends.  You would expect such a warrior to be well armed, and be dressed for battle in the most intimidating way.  This is what we want as humans to know that this warrior is an intimidating being.  The problem with this is it is not the picture that Isaiah casts for the redeeming warrior.  What kind of warrior will deliver and why is this the warrior that we need?

A Weak Warrior (Isaiah 42:1-9)

We can talk about the Advent of Christ, but do we really understand the nature of his mission?  Do we really understand the state of His people?  We can claim that this is only a problem for Israel, but are they the only broken people in the Lord’s Word?  How does this old prophet relate to us today?

You Lousy Witnesses! (Job 16-17)

The interactions between Job and the counselors has not been overly positive.  In fact, Job has been beaten up pretty badly in this process and their interactions have by and large bypassed each other.  One would hope that at some point the gospel would come out.  Unfortunately, Job continues to cling to his righteousness, but is he beginning to see that his righteousness is not enough?  Is Job finally starting to see that retreating into the pit of Sheol is not a refuge at all?
