Our Father's Feast (Matthew 26:17-30)

Christ's day and his hour is at hand. Christ celebrates a passover as he has most likely done before with his disciples. However this time he applies the blessings of the passover to himself identifying himself as the passover and the one who sheds the blood of the covenant. What is Christ doing here? What does this mean in the overall trajectory of the gospel?

Communion Instituted (Luke 22:1-23)

Our Lord gathers together with his disciples to celebrate passover.  It is during this passover feast that Christ and the disciples have the first communion or Lord’s Supper. It would seem that if the Lord’s Supper is instituted at passover that the Lord’s Supper and passover would be the same thing.  However, reformed people have not seen them being the exact same thing.  How can we make a distinction between the Lord’s Supper and the Passover?  What has Christ stated that helps us understand this disinction?

Worship Elements: Communion: Passover (Ex. 12)

The Lord’s people have been enslaved for 400 years and doubt whether or not the Lord is really with them.  The Lord promises that his people will not remain in slavey.   So, what how is the Lord going to deliver His people from this time of slavery?  What is Israel going to do in light of this deliverance that the Lord promises? How does this deliverance pave the way for the Lord’s Supper?

Sojourning Under the Sun: Sabbath Instigation (2) (Exodus 12:33-13:16)

The ridiculous claim that the Lord made was that Israel was going to plunder the Egyptians.  This sounds ridiculous because how can a people who are in slavery, have been in slavery for centuries, and are still very much in slavery when the Lord finds them going to triumph over their slave masters?  Our understanding is rather simple: if a people have been enslaved for centuries then it is very likely they will remain in slavery.  However, the Lord promised that the Lord would deliver his people with a mighty hand.  Is the Lord really able to do such a thing?  What does this deliverance-exodus teach us about God’s redemption?

Sojourning Under the Sun: Sabbath Instigation (Exodus 12)

There is little doubt that Pharaoh claiming not to know the Lord is basically Pharaoh saying that the Lord of Israel is no match for him.  The reality is that the Egyptians have held the Israelites for 400 some years and their God has not acted on their behalf so what can their God really do?  Pharaoh heard the Lord’s warning through Moses, and should know that God means business.  So, how much business does the Lord really mean?  Is the Lord really ready to deliver his people from the Egyptian bondage?  What can such a message declare about the Lord’s Sabbath rest?
