We conclude our study of Timothy. This is Paul reminding Timothy about the significance of the Christian life. Paul has warned of the seduction of riches, but is it wrong to be blessed by the Lord? How do we manage the wealth that God has given to us? What is the concern that Timothy is to ultimately have regarding his ministry?
Mr. Paul Freswick preaches about how we need to be stewards of this creation from Psalm 8.
The reality is that if we ask the wrong question we are more than likely to arrive at the wrong answer. If we desire to find the right answers it is best to ask the right questions. This is what we find with the wealthy man who approaches Christ about salvation. He thinks that the answer is simple so his question is simple. In his understanding he has done all that is required for life. However, when Christ points out the bigger picture even the disciples are confused by the answer. So, what must we do to be saved and have life? How can we as Americans enter the Kingdom of God if a camel cannot go through the eye of a needle?
There are many theories on how to manage money. We could say that we manage it well because we give a lot to the Lord. The issue is why are we being generous? Is it because we believe that the Lord will return our money tenfold? Are we doing it because our conscience has been bound to do so? Are we doing it because we know that the Lord loves a cheerful giver? These are questions that impact our generosity and how we should value the Lord and the things of the Lord. Sometimes we try to be generous because we think that our generosity will be rewarded by God rather than because we know our generosity honors the Lord. So, how do we manage our finances, our lives, and positively strive to be generous for the glory of the Lord? What is involved in our keeping the commandment that requires us not to steal?
If you read the book of Ecclesiastes you might be tempted not to do anything in this world. The reason that we might be tempted not to do anything is because you will probably lose or experience frustration so why press forward? Or we might think that we work hard and then we die so what is the point? However, the preacher wants us to see that there is a value and there is something that is worthwhile in our working. So, why press forward in life? Why manage our money? Why do anything under the sun if this world is in a curse?
