Salvation for All? (1 Timothy 2:1-6; LD 11)

When we talk about our redemption we want to affirm that God has called His people before the foundations of the world.  So, I believe that God is one who has chosen a select amount of people from the whole human race to receive salvation.  This would mean that when Christ comes to secure and redeem He secures the people that the Father has given HIm.  In other words, Christ has died for the elect.  So, if I believe this then why does Paul say that God desires all to be saved?
